If it’s done gently, there’s little risk of damaging the shirt. But keep in mind, you are putting additional stress on the shirt’s fibers and seams, but so does putting the shirt in the washing machine. NettetI found that my washing machine and/or tumble dryer actually caused these kinds of holes in particular jumpers and shirts. I'm not saying that is what caused it in your case, but it only happened with fine weave wool shirts/jumpers and cotton t-shirts, not trousers (pants) or anything else.

Most are pin holes, but some are slightly larger than a pencil eraser. I don't have moths or any other clothes eating critter.
